O ne conventionally associates Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat, with lifelessness or isolation. Photographer Daniel Kordan evidently does not. In a visit to the area, he was able to capture several spectacular surrealist instants. The manner in which the milky way’s cosmic enormity is reflected on the glass-like sheen of the Bolivian salt flat conjures a celestial connection between the desert and the universe above. As heaven and earth combine in this captivating image, we are once more reminded of man’s insignificance in the face of nature’s endless majesty.
